Marian Wood named Employee of the Quarter
by Christy K. Robinson

She's the chatelaine of the castle, the Keeper of the Keys for the School of Dentistry.

Marian Wood
Marian Wood accepts her certificate from Dean Goodacre.
Marian Wood, Employee of the Quarter this go-round, is senior administrative secretary for dental maintenance, and responsible for receiving and directing requests for the maintenance needs of Prince Hall, from malfunctioning clinic equipment to a squeaky door hinge to stopped plumbing and students locked out of their lab cupboards. Many duties filter through her capable hands. Oh, yes, she can type, too!

She's been married for 43 years to Carlton "Woodie" Wood, the rental property manager for LLU Foundation. (He's the wavy-haired man driving the Model T or Model A vehicles in the community parades.) They have two grown sons, a cat, and a dog, and reside in Redlands.

After many years in upstate New York, the Woods moved to this area in 1985. She worked for two years for the Del E. Webb University library, doing cataloging, data entry, and other jobs. In 1987, she moved to the School of Dentistry.

In her leisure time, Marian enjoys working on her flower beds, particularly growing roses. She says she can't get enough of antiquing and flea marketing; and she collects two sorts of items: porcelain and ceramic cats, and snow men with carrot noses. "They must have carrot noses, though!" she affirms.

What makes her so good at her job? Probably her attitude.

"I like helping to take problems and get an answer to them," says Marian.

The following are comments made about Marian when co-workers nominated her for Employee of the Quarter:
* Very professional, caring, Christian lady.
* Marian is the kind of person that is always busy. She answers the phone and deals with students/staff/faculty at the same time. Few people fully realize just how much work she does.
* Marian Wood handles many tasks. During her work day, she does this with a ready smile and a concern for us all. I highly recommend Marian for this well deserved award.
* Marian exhibits a helping and caring attitude that meets people's needs. It seems that no matter how busy she is, she has time for each individual. It is a pleasure working with her.
* Marian is a vital asset to her department and is often overlooked. Her organizational skills are a key element to the success of her department.
* Always very helpful.
* Marian is extremely faithful, competent and devoted to her job and under, at times, severe pressure. She manages to do what is asked of her in a professional and caring manner. Although not in contact with patients, her work is very important although seemingly thankless for the most part.
* Marian is always ready to help. She is very kind and will do what she can to help you in various situations. She shows a caring, Christian attitude with her co workers, especially through this time of new payroll policies. It is a pleasure working with her.
