Center for Dental Research welcomes international students

The Center for Dental Research participates in an exchange program for international students. “While the students are with us,” says Carlos Muñoz, DDS, MSD, professor of restorative dentistry and director of the Center for Dental Research, “They observe how our research center operates, assist with ongoing research projects, and take classes.
The School recently welcomed two international students: Anna Torrado,
a student from Autonomous University of Bellaterra, Spain, pursuing a
PhD in analytical chemistry, and Maria Paula Lopez, who is in her final
year of dentistry at Javeriana University, Colombia.
Maria Paula Lopez was encouraged by a professor in her university to apply
for the exchange program.
Academically, she is at the top of her dental class, which is a five-year program in Colombia. She chose to enter the profession because she felt she could organize her schedule to give her time to spend with her family.
While on the Loma Linda campus she is working on research projects, and is observing in in the main clinic.
"Many of the processes I am observing at Loma Linda,” she says, “are new for Colombia. I hope to use this informaiton to learn how to put together a research project to develop dental materials after I return to Colombia.”
Anna Torrado applied to the exchange program interested in developing
products for dental applications.
Ms. Torrado’s trip is being sponsored by a grant from her school—Autonomous
University of Barcelona, Bellaterra, Spain. The work she is doing at Loma
Linda is part of her thesis project.
