"I am pleased to announce that Dr. Steve Filler will be assuming this position effective immediately," said Dr. Mary Lynne Capilouto, dean of the School. "Dr. Filler's leadership qualities, which he has demonstrated through his previous activities at school, university and national levels, make him well qualified to assume this important administrative role."

Dr. Filler's areas of responsibilities will include postdoctoral and DMD program admissions, student and alumni affairs, and national and international programs and projects.

Dr. Filler completed a two-year residency in hospital dentistry in 1983, and earned an MS in oral biology and an MA in education.

Active in dental treatment of patients requiring special care, Dr. Filler holds the position of director of the Division of Hospital Dentistry at University of Alabama Hospitals and is a professor in the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery.

He was the recipient of a five-year Dentist Scientist Award from the National Institutes of Health (1985 - 1990) and is a past president of the American Association of Hospital Dentists. For over 17 years, Dr. Filler has been the chief dentist for the Birmingham Zoo.

LETTERS
Dear Christy,
I think the current Dentalgram (September 1999) looks at least as good as any of the others and just seems to be getting better. Great layout and copy material. Keep up the good work!
Clyde Roggenkamp, SD'70, MSD, MA
