Administration The ombudspersons for the School of Dentistry are Ms. Joni Stephens, extenstion 44631, and Dr. Daniel Tan, extension 44640. Dr. Tan has replaced Dr. Willis Schlenker, who recently retired. If you have a sensitive issue to discuss regarding work relationships, you are invited to contact either Ms. Stephens or Dr. Tan. Dental hygiene Rhonda Hamerslough, RDH, instructor in dental hygiene, is getting married in Maui in September. She will resume her teaching duties in the fall quarter. Dental supply Congratulations to Steve Cantrell, who recently completed his bachelor"s degree in education.
Educational support services
Nancy Yuen has been appointed the new editorial coordinator for the School of Dentistry. She has worked for the office of University Relations for the past ten and a half years, covering the Schools of Allied Health Professions and Nursing, and most recently SAHP and the Behavioral Medicine Center. Ms. Yuen looks forward to getting to know the members of the School of Dentistry family, and working with faculty and staff to let the LLU&MC family, and the community, know of the School's activities and goals. Beginning September 1, information for the Dentalgram should be sent to her at nyuen@sd.llu.edu. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery LLU faculty are presenting three papers at AAOMS, 82nd Annual Meeting and Scientific Sessions, September 20-23, 2000, in San Francisco. Drs. Dale E. Stringer and David H. Gilbert are presenting a paper titled "One-Stage Reconstruction of the Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritic Adolescent Patient." Dr. Alan S. Herford is presenting two papers including "Integration of the Medical Degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery: A Ten-Year Follow-up" and "Airway Management in Head and Neck Infections." Oral diagnosis, radiology, pathology (ODRP) Dr. Kandasamy Rengasamy will be joining ODRP faculty to begin a full time teaching position. Dr. Rengasamy is currently teaching at the University of Connecticut, where he completed a residency in oral and maxillofacial radiology and advanced education in general dentistry. Says Ron Blank, SD'75A, chair of the department, "I met with him a couple of weeks ago and was impressed with his enthusiasm and innovative ideas for enriching our department. We are looking forward to his arrival in late October. Please join me in welcoming him when he arrives." Pediatric dentistry Wesley Okumura, SD"94, will be new Clinic Director for Pediatric Dentistry Clinic. He will be joining us as an assistant professor full time and also working in the Surgery Center for Dentistry. Welcome to Tracee Henderson, our new insurance and financial specialist. Julie Spohn Gazzola, RDA, was married August 5. Congratulations! Periodontics Robert Kiger, SD'70, MS'85, professor of periodontics,was married to Ellen Fletcher on Saturday evening, August 19, in a beautiful garden wedding setting. We wish them God's many blessings on their marriage.
Restorative dentistry Bruce Hasenauer, SD'77, joined LLUSD as assistant professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry on August 7, 2000. After graduation, Dr. Hasenauer practiced in Atlanta, Georgia for two years with his uncle, Loel Wurl, SD'62. In 1980 he moved to Denver, Colorado and began his own private practice which he conducted until he sold the practice in 1999. During this time he and his partner Per Reiakvam, SD'80, also started and conducted a school for dental assisting in Denver named Hampden Dental College. Dr. Hasenauer and his wife Sheryl have three children. Son Cory is a dentist in Denver, Colorado. Daughter Casey is an occupational therapy student at LLU. Daughter Caitlin will be a junior at Mile High Academy in Denver.
