Mission statement

Advanced education program in implant dentistry

This mission statement serves only to further augment the motto and mission statement of Loma Linda University School of Dentistry.

Goals

  • Goal 1: To educate graduate students of the advanced education program in implant dentistry to the proficiency level and capable to deliver implant dentistry treatment.
  • Objective: All graduate students will be assigned patients in which, they will provide appropriate diagnosis and treatment planning in complicated and uncomplicated patient situations.
  • Outcomes Measures: During patient presentation seminars, the graduate student will present a minimum of 3 patients per quarter, demonstrating the acquired knowledge in examination, diagnosis and treatment planning of an adequate mix of various clinical situations.
  • Methods:
    • Auditing of charts.
    • Course grading IMPD 634 / IMPD 505
    • Results from exit interview.

     

  • Goal 2: To educate graduate students of the advanced education program in implant dentistry to perform research and practice teaching.
  • Objective: All graduate students will acquire research experience by developing a research project or participating in an existing study. The student also will develop teaching skills by supervising and teaching pre-doctoral students and participating in the annual Implant Dentistry Study Club.
  • Outcomes Measures: The student will be provided with opportunities to perform implant dentistry research. Successful completion of the didactic portion of the program providing in-depth knowledge for the preparation and execution of research.
  • Methods: Grading of didactic courses in Statistics, Scientific Writing, Research, Thesis and Practice Teaching. (GRDN 607, 651, IMPD 654, 697, 698) Analysis of Instructor/Graduate student evaluation

 

  • Goal 3: To provide in-depth didactic and clinical instruction in problem based patient situations that require implant prosthodontic and surgical solutions.
  • Objective: Graduate students enrolled in the advanced education program in implant dentistry will develop the skills in assessing problem based patient situations. The graduate will develop rational solutions based on critical thinking, and supported by scientific based implant dentistry treatments.
  • Outcomes Measures: The graduate student will successfully complete literature review courses that contain classic and current literature with the purpose to analyze, criticize and utilize the knowledge in application of solutions to a variety of clinical problems.
  • Methods: Successful completion of literature review courses in implant dentistry. (IMPD 601, 604 and 612) Results from exit interview.

 

  • Goal 4: To train graduate students of the advanced education program in implant dentistry to develop clinical practice.

  • Objective: Establish awareness for professional development by participating and collaborating with the goals of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. Guidance and recommendations for establishment of clinical practice in implant dentistry.
  • Outcomes Measures: The graduate student will successfully complete courses in professional ethics, religion and clinical practice in implant dentistry.
  • Methods:
    • Completion of courses. (IMPD 625, PROS 510 and GRDN 609)
    • The graduate student will participate in the credentialing process established American Academy in Implant Dentistry.
    • Results from exit interview.
    • Results from alumni survey.

 

  • Goal 5: To achieve highest levels of patient treatment satisfaction.
  • Objective: The quality of patient satisfaction with each treatment will be a minimum rating of 3 from each category of the patient satisfaction forms
  • Outcomes Measures: Quarterly sessions to advice graduate students about patient treatment complete surveys.
  • Methods: Patient survey forms.
