Frederick Hoffer, DDS, MS'68

Dr. Frederick Hoffer and his wife, Bonnie

Frederick Hoffer was born January 23, 1924, in Canton, Ohio. He attended the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry and earned his dental degree in 1946, after which he was stationed in Louisiana as a member of the Army Dental Corps.

Fred moved to Porterville, California, and practiced dentistry for 20 years, but his real love was orthodontics. In 1966 he sold his practice and entered the orthodontics program at the School of Dentistry. After completing the program in 1968 he returned to Porterville, and practiced orthodontics for 22 years until he retired.

Fred enjoyed building and working around the house. He also loved the mountains and was an avid hiker on the John Muir Trail. Most of all he loved his family and the Lord. He passed away on September 6, 2001, while on vacation in Maui, Hawaii. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, five children, and seven grandchildren. He was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery in Riverside, where he awaits the soon coming of the Lord.
