An overview of the class of 2005


The School welcomed 90 students as the class of 2005. With 1,332 applicants, the students are from 32 colleges and universities. Five hold a master’s degree; 42 have bachelors of science degrees, and 30 have completed the bachelor of arts degree.

In the incoming class, the most common major is biology followed by biochemistry, psychology, health science, chemistry, and English. Fifteen students enter dental school having completed degrees in the broader liberal arts including history, language, art, music, and humanities. There are two radiation technologists, three medical technologists, a physical therapist and a nurse in the class. Three students enter with a college average higher than 3.9 and 19 enter with a GPA over 3.75. One student begins the dental coursework with a college GPA of 4.0. Each student completed the Dental Admission Test. On the academic average score, the class average is 18.8. The class scored an average of 19.5 on the perceptual ability section of the test. Two students scored 28 on the PAT section and three students scored 24 on the quantitative section.

The class has a richly diverse ethnic composition with 41 non-Hispanic White, 38 Asian, 7 Hispanic, 3 African-American and one Indian-American. There are ten international students in the class. The average age is 25.1. Ten students in the class are 30 years of age or older; the oldest was born in 1964 and the youngest was born in 1980.
