CDA honors Dr. Richard Simms for the second time
|
|
| Dr. Simms was selected by the California
Dental Association as the honoree of the Spring Scientific Session.
It is the second time he has received this distinction. |
When Richard A. Simms, DDS, first vice president to
the American Dental Association, heard that he had been selected as the
honoree of the Spring Scientific session in Anaheim, he thought it was
a mistake, writes Debra Belt in the February 15, 2002 CDA UPDATE.
After all, he had already received the honor in 1993.
The CDA, however, felt that Dr. Simmss service to organized dentistry
is so extensive that the organization chose to honor him for a second
time.
Steven D. Chan, DDS, CDA president, told the publication that Dr.
Simms is truly among the statesmen of organized dentistry in California.
He was the longest-serving member, chair, and consultant to CDA Council
of Legislation until the ADA acquired him for the ADA Council
on Governmental Affairs. He was founding chair of the Dental Forum (ad
hoc Committee on Interorganizational Affairs), which was initiated by
CDA in 1985, bringing ethnic dental societies to common ground.
I want to feel that I have made my contribution to the enrichment
and preservation of our profession, Dr. Simms was quoted as saying.
I have labored to influence and represent what organized dentistry
is all about, and I have enjoyed every moment of it.
