Dr.
Quint Nicola named associate director, health ministries department, General
Conference

| Dr. Quint Nicola, SD'69, has been named associate director of the Health Ministries Department for General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. He will oversee the 76 mission dental clinics operated by the Adventist Church around the world. |
Quint Nicola, SD’69, has been appointed associate director
of the Health Ministries Department for the General Conference of Seventh-day
Adventists.
Dr. Nicola has assumed James Crawford’s (SD’60) role with the
General Conference. In his new capacity he will oversee the 76 mission
dental clinics operated by the Adventist Church around the world.
While attending the School of Dentistry in 1967, Dr. Nicola volunteered
with a group of dental students and faculty who traveled to Guatemala
for three weeks.
After graduating from LLUSD in 1969, Dr. Nicola served as an associate
with his father for two years.
During that time he further experienced overseas mission work and the
challenges of mission service with a three-month relief assignment in
Okinawa in 1970.
In 1971 Dr. Nicola and his wife, Norene, accepted a request to open a
dental clinic in Afghanistan. Their call was later transferred to Pakistan,
where Dr. and Mrs. Nicola served for 10 years between 1971 and 1986.
In the late 1970s, Dr. and Mrs. Nicola also served for five years at Monument
Valley. During those years he remembers, “Students often performed
mission service through externship programs, and many seniors worked at
Monument Valley. Everyone I spoke with appreciated the experiences they
gained during the six weeks spent working at the clinic, which is on the
Navajo Indian Reservation.”
Having practiced in the United States and abroad, Dr. Nicola is sensitive
to the needs of dentists who wish to make a difference through mission
service.
“It is one of my long-term goals,” he confides, “to work
with group practices so that dentists can continue practicing and may
also spend time in overseas mission service.”
