Alumni
president's message

| Michael Boyko, SD'75A (left), accepts
the presidential gavel, School of Dentistry Alumni Association, from
immediate past president Daniel Kunihira, SD'74 |
Your School has never been in as strong position as it is
today. As alumni you have played a significant role in the Schools
success. The week following the Alumni Student Convention this year saw
our alma mater working through the American Dental Associations
accreditation process. I am pleased to announce that under the able leadership
of Dean Goodacre, the School received highest marks with 27 commendations.
Part of the reason for success in this endeavor was our School embracing
the Applied Strategic Plan.
Your Alumni Association, along with School of Dentistry administration,
jointly initiated this year-long process.
Alumni faithfully serving on committees not only helped to crystallize
the mission of our School, but also set the stage for the next four years
to evaluate both our weaknesses and our strengths.
This envisioning process will enable our Schools faculty, staff,
and administration to develop programs that will make Loma Linda University
School of Dentistry the pre-eminent dental school in the world.
I would like to share with you the Motto, Vision
2005, Core values, and Mission of the School of Dentistry.
To achieve the vision of the School, 10 core values have been embraced.
These core values are foundational to the School. I challenge you as alumni
to adopt these core values as your own, as well.
Loma Linda University School of Dentistry is a strong, vibrant, and inspirational
place of learning. In an era when dental schools are closing their doors,
schools such as Northwestern University, the school of G.V. Black, are
not immune to the overwhelming pressures faced by faculty and administration.
It reminds us that dental education comes at a price, and that price is
dear.
Part of our Schools strength lies in her alumniyou and me.
Our commitment to Christian education makes programs such as the Applied
Strategic Plan possible.
It is our financial support, giving of time and energy, and remembering
our School and Alumni Association in prayer that will guarantee the future
success of our School.
I am proud of my School. I am proud of Loma Linda Universitys role
in dentistry today. I want it to be there for me in the future, and for
those young people who see themselves becoming Christian dentists.
Join me this year as we work together to make the vision of 2005 a reality.
