...we present a variety of stories about the School and
its alumni and faculty. This past year has been full of activities involving
the School family and facility, highlighted by the expansion which provided
new clinics for the dental anesthesia program and the pediatric dentistry
program, and an expansion of the main clinic. In addition, by moving dental anesthesia and pediatric dentistry,
increased space has become available to the oral and maxillofacial surgery
program and to the prosthodontic program. For the past several years,
clinic space (or more precisely, lack thereof) has been the most noticeable
difficulty with our educational program. Currently, we have enough dental
operatories so that no student should be unable to schedule a patient.
What a difference from the space problem we had for the past 15 - 20 years! On the calendar of upcoming events is the ADA Accreditation
Site Visit scheduled for February, 2002. It may seem to be long way away,
but the entire School faculty is gearing up for this important process
which takes place every seventh year. Our School has never had less than
full accreditation since the first one almost 50 years ago. Another important
event, coming up in 2003, will mark the fiftieth anniversary of the founding
of Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. These two very important
events represent just a part of many exciting activities which are part
of School of Dentistry life and which we delight in sharing with our alumni
and friends. As always, if you have any comments, suggestions, or requests, please contact me. Leif K. Bakland, SD63
