Elaine Brizendine, SD'74, of Modesto, California, passed away from breast cancer on March 10, 2002. She is survived by two sons.

Owen S. Claunch, SD'58, passed away on August 9, 2003, from liver cancer. Dr. Claunch was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942. He was stationed on Omaha Beach three months after D-Day and remained in the country for several years, learning the language and studying the history of France. After returning to America, he studied theology at Pacific Union College, in Angwin, California, and then applied to the School of Dentistry. "Taking dentistry was the best thing I ever did," he told friends. After practicing dentistry in San Dimas he moved to Salinas, working for the Delano Correctional Institute in Vacaville, and retired in Placerville, California, in 1986. He and his wife, Beth, had recently relocated to Loma Linda. They enjoyed travel and visited Europe, Panama, and Santa Domingo. Throughout his life Dr. Claunch was committed to his family, and enjoyed helping others anonymously.

Lawrence Norphleet Cross, SD'60, beloved husband and father, died in Sentara Leigh Hospital Tuesday, May 14, 2002, following a brief illness.
In 1960, Dr. Cross graduated from the School of Dentistry. He served the Portsmouth, Virginia, area for 42 years as a dentist. He was a member of the Tidewater and Virginia Dental Associations, the Dental Study Club, and was on the dental staff at Maryview Hospital. He was an Army sergeant in the U.S. Medical Corps during the Korean War.
Dr. Cross was a native of Norfolk, Virginia, and a member of Grove Park Portsmouth Seventh-day Adventist Church where he was serviceman's secretary, religious liberty leader, and deacon. He also served on the Church and school boards. In 1976, Dr. Cross was recognized by the chief of the Portsmouth Police Department for his participation in the water rescue of a local citizen.
Dr. Cross is survived by his wife of 49 years, Luanne M. Cross, three daughters: Marilynn Schander of Portsmouth and her husband, Roger Schander of Virginia Beach; Beverly Curles and her husband, Archie Curles; and Leanne Gordon and her husband, Douglas Gordon, all of Portsmouth; a sister, Marion Marple, of Silver Spring, Maryland; a brother, Don Cross, and his wife, Doris; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Charles Harman, SD'76, passed away April 11, 2003, in Oklahoma, of multiple myeloma.
Christopher Hayden, SD'92, of Fall Creek Oregon, passed away from injuries sustained in a boating accident on May 11, 2002. His wife, Lynette, is a 1990 graduate of the dental hygiene program.
Howard L. Lilly, MS'66, of Orlando, Florida, passed away on February 12, 2002.
Gary G. Morikone, DDS, MS'67, passed away August 4, 2003. Dr. Morikone received his DDS degree from University of the Pacific, and his MS degree in orthodontics from LLU in 1967. He was a lifetime member of National Association of Seventh-day Adventist Dentists.
