Alumni-Student Convention

Students, Alumni of the Year chosen at convention
Students of the Year, and Alumni of the Year for 1999 were announced
at the School of Dentistry Alumni-Student Convention, February 3 - 8.
Students honored were John Nelsen and Wendy King-DeCamp. Alumni honored
from the School of Dentistry were Gerald Weitz, SD'74, and Sharon Golightly,
EdD, a 1964 dental hygiene graduate.
John Nelsen, SD'99, was honored as Student of the Year by the Dental Alumni
Association for his contributions to student leadership, his outstanding
scholarship, his excellent clinical skills, and his community and mission
service.
Wendy King-DeCamp, senior in the dental hygiene program, was described
by her professors as the ideal student, who has the attributes of professionalism,
a positive attitude, and warmth toward her patients. She is very involved
in dental hygiene activities and has represented her class at professional
meetings.
Gerald Weitz, SD'74, was honored as Dental Alumni Association Alumnus
of the Year for his contributions to dentistry and science, and his service
to mankind. He has been member and chair of many community boards and
service organizations in Moscow, Idaho, where he lives. He generously
supports the School of Dentistry by his membership in the Dean's Circle.
Sharon Golightly, EdD, a 1964 graduate of the dental hygiene program,
has been a dental hygiene educator for 24 years. Dental hygiene alumni
selected Dr. Golightly as Alumna of the Year "for her innovation
and tireless commitment to dental hygiene education; for her role modeling
as a change agent for our profession, and her dedication to her students,
her ‘proudest accomplishment.' We honor our respected graduate and esteemed
colleague."
The honorees were presented with plaques at the annual homecoming banquet.
