A message from the dean:
Remembering the past, envisioning the future...
 |
As we bring closure to this special year that marked the 50th Anniversary of the School of Dentistry, I am reminded of a plethora of innovations, educational firsts, and accomplishments actualized through the faculty and staff with their focus on excellence, the work ethic of countless students, and the impact of alumni who have exemplified the ideals of the School.
The service to our local and worldwide communities and the compassionate dental care provided are particularly noteworthy.
Without question, one cannot relive the past 50 years without also confronting and taking comfort in God's guidance at each turn in the road. It is readily apparent that these accomplishments during the past 50 years would not have been possible through human efforts alone.
As the School of Dentistry embarks upon its centennial course, it is important to consider the response to several questions. Is the world a better place because of the School of Dentistry? Have the lives of others been enriched because Loma Linda University started a dental school? Have we been optimally focused upon service? Can we still see further and reach higher?
The answers to these questions characterize our fitness to stand on the shoulders of those who listened to that still, small voice and pursued excellence during the first 50 years. The playing field has been elevated and we must all rise to yet unknown levels. If we are to continually advance, we must somehow build upon the accomplishments of those who have gone before.
May we always have the idealism, the enthusiasm, the professionalism, the focus, and the endurance, to excel.
May the accomplishments of the second 50 years be inconceivable and filled with unparalleled excellence.
