The newest member of the School of Dentistry administration team is Kathleen Moore, MHIS.
"With electronic media as the future for learning, communication, recruitment, and clinical records, administrative oversight for information technology is now essential," says Charles Goodacre, SD'71, MSD, dean. "The position of assistant dean for educational support services has been established in the School of Dentistry, and Kathleen Moore was recently appointed to fill this role."
This position will also encompass continuing education management, Alumni Association leadership, and spearheading the marketing activities for the School. Focus will be placed on developing fully-navigable teaching material, planning and building a more complete web site, and continuing to create an efficient team of staff members to support the teaching programs of the School.
Kathleen Moore brings to this position a quarter of a century's involvement with the School, and long-term experience in continuing education, alumni functions, and managing the information technology staff.
She began her association with LLU in 1978 as the secretary to Dr. Judson Klooster when he was dean. Under his tutelage Kathleen Moore was able to grow professionally, moving into department assistant and director positions over the next two decades. In 1999, she added dental computer services to her continuing education and Alumni Association management roles, and recently became involved with educational support services.
"The School of Dentistry has been good to me," remarks Ms. Moore. "I've been able to gain valuable experience in several arenas, and have been allowed to shape my professional life in a very satisfactory manner."
Over the years Kathleen Moore has worked closely with several mentors, including Drs. Klooster, James Crawford, Leif Bakland, and Charles Goodacre. She credits these relationships for her professional growth and satisfaction in the School.
With two teenage children, Kathleen Moore and her husband, Bill Redman, are kept busy. All four family members are involved with the University: Bill is a LLU security officer, 15-year-old Daniel works for clinical administration during his academic vacations, and 13-year-old Heather volunteers for various functions in the School. "I like to work, and apparently some of this attitude has rubbed off on my family," she says. "I get excited over tasks and achievements, and other things that most people probably find mundane. I frequently get so eager to accomplish things that I sometimes have to stop and remember the human side of life also."
She completed her master's degree in health information systems at LLU School of Allied Health Professions in 1999. "The information I learned and relationships established during that program have given me the foundation for the role I will now be playing," she says. "I hope to build on that and be a real asset to the School of Dentistry for many years."
