Pierre Fauchard Academy Awards Scholarship to John
Nelsen, SD'99
Dean Goodacre presents the Pierre Fauchard Academy
award to John Nelsen, SD'99. John Nelsen, senior dental student and former
student missionary to Ecuador, has been awarded a $1,550 scholarship from
the Pierre Fauchard Academy. John was called to an appointment on December
1 with Charles J. Goodacre, SD'71, MSD, dean of the School of Dentistry,
not knowing the reason for his summons. When John was told of his award,
he broke into a big grin of delight (and relief.) The award recognizes John's
"outstanding leadership, accomplishments, and dedication to advancement
of dental literature."

P. Miller |

* Two School of Dentistry alumni were among six general practitioners
in California who earned the Academy of General Dentistry's prestigious
Mastership Award at a special ceremony held in Boston in July. It is not
an easy task to accomplish this, according to the Academy. First, one must
achieve fellowship status by completing 500 course hours within 10 years
and then pass a written examination. The road to Mastership involves 600
additional hours, 400 of which must be earned by participating in hands-on
courses sanctioned by the AGD. There are in excess of 100,000 dentists in
the United States, and only about 1,400 have achieved Mastership status
since they were first awarded in 1972.

placed third at the 1994 ADA Meeting in New Orleans; and Franco Audia, SD’97,
