In this issue...
...we look at several issues affecting our School.
A recent survey of alumni opinions conducted by Drs. Ramirez, Hooker and
Kim (see story) reveals some very interesting
things about graduates from Loma Linda University: their interest in and
concern for their communities stands out. Our alumni enjoy volunteering--providing
dental care for the needy, participating in mission trips to near and
far-off places, and other community projects. Perhaps some of this volunteering
enthusiasm results from the seeds sown in their minds when as students
they have all kinds of mission opportunities available to them and in
which many students participate on a large scale.
The interview with our Dean, Dr. Goodacre, gives insight into the leadership
goals for the individual who is guiding the School into the uncertain
future. High on the list of concerns right now is the needed expansion
of Prince Hall. Visitors to the School always comment about the busyness
of the place and how every square inch seems to be used. It is not an
exaggeration to say that the building is bursting at the seams. The addition,
which will accommodate the new dental activities of the pediatric dentistry
and the dental anesthesia programs will also free up some much needed
space for predoctoral activities and for oral surgery and prosthodontic
clinics. As this is written, bids for the construction are coming in and
the first step has been taken: patient parking has been changed to accommodate
the construction equipment.
Exciting days are ahead -- we will keep you informed.
