IN MEMORIAM
Kristy Anne McClintock-Macias, DH'94, RDH
The dental hygiene Class of 1994 lost its class president,
Kristy Anne McClintock-Macias, DH'94, RDH, when she died August 5, 1998,
in her home. She had battled cancer for over a year.
Mrs. Macias, a native of Riverside, worked as a registered dental hygienist
for Mervin Ellstrom, SD'75A, at Sunnymead Dental Group for three years.
Her memorial service was held on August 10 in Riverside. There was standing
room only as her family and friends overflowed the chapel. At the memorial
service, the following words were included in the program:
"In the spring of 1997, Kristy was diagnosed with breast cancer,
yet she not only continued to work, but also volunteered her services
for a low-income children's dental program. Kristy will be remembered
by those who knew her, as a gentle, kind, and caring individual, who had
a passion for growing beautiful things. She will be remembered by her
affection for all creatures, her gleaming smile, her soft voice, her gentle
touch, her innocence, and her heartfelt laughter. But best of all, we'll
remember Kristy for her strength, her dignity, her endurance, her will
to live, and her faith in God."
Kristy was married to Jorge Macias for 14 years, and is survived by her
husband, father, mother and stepfather, a brother, and two sisters.
Howard Conley, DDS, MS'62
by David Rynearson, SD'71, MS'87
It is with great sadness that I report the passing
of Howard Conley, DDS, MS'62, on September 14, 1998. Dr. Conley was an
esteemed alumnus, faculty member and friend of Loma Linda University School
of Dentistry. His predoctoral training was at the University of the Pacific
School of Dentistry at San Francisco. In 1962, Dr. Conley and his long
time friend Dr. Milford Anholm (who together comprised the first class
in orthodontic specialty training at LLUSD), received Master's Degrees
in Orthodontics. During the years 1967-1969 Dr. Conley served as chairman
of the orthodontic department at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry.
He also served as chairman of orthodontics for many years at the Medical
College of Georgia at Augusta. He was a Diplomate of the American Board
of Orthodontics and held membership in many professional organizations.
He had practiced orthodontics for many years in Asheville, North Carolina
and resided in Fletcher, North Carolina. Our hope is in 1 Thessalonians
4:13-18 and our prayers are for his wife, Dorothy and his children, Leonard,
Milton and Janet.
