General requirements
1. To receive a certificate in periodontics, the graduate student is required to:
a. be in residence in the program for 36 months;
b. complete all courses with at least a grade of C, and maintain a B average;
c. complete all clinical requirements in a satisfactory manner;
d. pass the oral clinical examinations;
e. participate in research (literature search, protocol presentation, experimentation, and data collection).
2. To receive a master of science degree, the graduate student is required to:
a. complete requirements (a) through (e) as outlined for the certificate training;
b. complete additional coursework, clinic and teaching as prescribed;
c. participate in and assume responsibility for one or more research projects;
d. organize, write, and present a thesis including one or more publishable papers in an acceptable form;
e. successfully defend the research in an oral examination.
3. Candidates for the master of science degree will be accepted after one year in residency based upon the progress of study and program capacity.
4. If, at the end of 36 months, the student has not completed program requirements, he/she has the option of registering for one (or more) quarter(s) to finish the necessary requirements.
