Marital and Family Therapy Canadian Campus
Clinical Training
The purpose of clinical training
- To assist the student in the integration of marital and family therapy concepts with her/his own philosophy of therapy through the process of clinical training, case presentation, and completion of a final oral exam.
- To work within the guidelines provided by the Commission on Accreditation, American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (see Manual on Accreditation, AAMFT, 1991).
- To prepare the student to work within the role and function of a marriage and family therapist as outlined by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
- To provide a structure whereby the student can complete the required 600 hours of clinical training necessary to graduate from the Marital and Family Therapy Program. This structure must be in accordance with AAMFT guidelines.
Note: Changes to AAMFT guidelines are ongoing. Such changes, when possible, will be reflected in the annual Clinical Training Manual. As a result, all students registered in the Marital and Family Therapy Program, whether full or part-time, will be under the clinical requirements of the current year according to AAMFT standards.
