Counseling and Family Sciences faculty - Curtis A. Fox, PhD, CFLE
Introduction
My name is Curtis Fox, and I am an associate professor in the department of counseling and family sciences and the director of the family studies and family life education programs in the Graduate School at Loma Linda University. I have been at Loma Linda University for two years and enjoy teaching and research. I especially enjoy a stimulating classroom and one-on-one encounters with students. In addition to teaching, I enjoy traveling, and I involve myself in church and community.
My background
My previous training and experience include being a minister of religion and also working as a family case-worker in New York. I completed a MS degree in marriage and family therapy at Loma Linda University and a PhD degree in child and family studies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. After graduation from the University of Tennessee, I worked as an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and taught in the area of child and family studies. In addition to my academic work and teaching, I have done clinical work at various family agencies in California, Tennessee, and New York.
My professional interest and research
I have several research interests. Over the last few years, I have focused on the study of clergy families, work and family stress, adolescent development, human sexuality, and parenting. At present, I am writing on all of the above. I maintain membership in several professional associations and seek to be actively involved. Also, I spent much time presenting seminars and workshops across the country in some areas of family living. Especially, I present on premarital relations, marriage enrichment, and parenting issues. A major focus of my work is on balancing work and family demands and strategies for coping.
What I teach
At Loma Linda University, I teach several courses such as crisis intervention counseling, human sexuality, family life education, professional issues in family life education, family social science research, and structural family therapy. As the director of the family studies program, I coordinate internships and research projects for students in the program in addition to managing the curricula.
