Welcome students and friends!
My name is Dr. Bob Gardner, and I am the program chair of the PhD in social policy and social research; professor in the Department of Social Work and Social Ecology at Loma Linda University located in Loma Linda, California. I hold a PhD in sociology from the University of Utah with specializations in medical sociology and the sociology of religion. I also have an MA in sociology from Loma Linda University and a BA in social science from Pacific Union College.
I am a professor of social policy and the chair of the program committee for the PhD in social policy and social research for the Department of Social Work and Social Ecology in the Graduate School at Loma Linda University. I am also director of a new office of institutional research and planning at Loma Linda University. My research interests are in the sociology of the professions and information technology and social policy.
From 1993 to 1999, I held various management positions at Data Systems
International, a health and human services software company in Layton, Utah.
Prior to my stint in industry, I was a professor of sociology and social work, associate academic dean and registrar at Walla Walla College, College Place, Washington. During a leave of absence from Walla Walla College, I was the senior research associate in the clinical studies unit of the Mental Health Research Institute in the department of psychiatry, School of Medicine, at the University of Michigan. I have also served as an exchange teacher and administrator at Southeast Asia Union College in the Republic of Singapore.
I continue to work as a systems analyst and design consultant for health and human services information management systems for Data Systems International.
