Examinations
Doctoral students must pass a qualifying examination. The qualifying examination consists of three parts: 1) a written comprehensive examination usually taken at the end of the first year in social science, social policy, and Christian ethics; 2) a research theory paper; and 3) a research methodology paper. The two papers are done in conjunction with the two research seminars.Candidacy
Students who successfully complete all course work and pass the qualifying examination apply for PhD candidacy. The candidacy period is spent in full-time dissertation research.Dissertation
The candidate will, under the direction of a guidance committee, satisfactorily:- complete a written dissertation proposal;
- pass an oral examination of the written dissertation proposal;
- conduct a significant research project;
- write the dissertation; and defend the dissertation at an oral examination.
Degree Completion Requirements
- Completion of 104 units
