Welcome students and friends!
My name is Terrence Forrester LCSW, and I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work and Social Ecology. Also, I serve as the Director of Field Education, Title VI-E Coordinator, and Co-Coordinator for the Mental Health Proposition 63 Program.
I received my undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Cincinnati followed by a master’s degree in social work from the University of Louisville. Subsequently, I received post graduate training in management, supervision, and family therapy.
My career in social work started in 1973 providing in-home services to children who were abused and neglected. Since that time, I have worked in a variety of both management and clinical settings focusing on high-risk youth and families.
I have a strong interest in the area of clinical supervision and have been involved in teaching both classes and seminars to students and licensed clinicians. Currently, I am co-authoring a study on the quality of supervision that students experience in practicum settings.
Community involvement is an integral part of my work. I serve on a number of local and statewide committees including the Child Welfare Training Academy, Mental Health Services Statewide Committee, California Field Directors, and the Title IV-E Project Coordinators.
My work on various committees is complemented by my teaching a weekly advanced clinical seminar class as well as a class in supervision. Further, I frequently lecture in the community on various issues relating to supervision.
I’ve been married over 20 years and have am the proud father of a young son who keeps me active and humble.
My teaching philosophy is reflected in the words of the late Arthur Ashe: "From what you get you make a giving, from what you give you make a life."
