Commencement

Commencement events occur at the close of the spring term (May/June) and include the formal presentation of candidates and the conferring-of-degrees ceremony by the president. Candidates presented at this event include (1) students who have completed the requirements for degrees since the preceding conferring-of-degrees ceremonies, and (2) students who meet the requirements for participation in the commencement ceremony that have been established by the school in which they are enrolled.

A student who completes the requirements for a degree at the end of the summer, fall, or winter quarter is invited to participate in subsequent commencement events. The official date of graduation on the diploma is the last day of the term in which the requirements for a degree are completed.

Superior academic performance is recognized for persons who complete their baccalaureate degree and who at the end of the quarter preceding their final term have acquired a cumulative grade point average for all college work (includes undergraduate course work taken at other colleges/universities). Remedial courses are not included.

Graduation cum laude 3.5
Graduation magna cum laude 3.8
Graduation summa cum laude 3.9

Although the official commencement program indicates names of graduates who qualify for honors on the basis of their grade point average as of the end of the quarter preceding their final term, the subsequently issued diploma and transcript may indicate graduation with honors if the student's final quarter's record has increased the grade point average sufficiently to qualify for honors at that time.
