Hot Tips
Please let a dean know when you become ill and need assistance. Residents who become ill must notify their advisors or follow any other explicit instructions given by their specific school.
Student Health Services is located in the Center of Health Promotion, Evans Hall (just across Anderson Street), and can be reached at extension 44496. If you should need emergency care during off hours, you will need to go to the emergency room at the Medical Center. Your student insurance covers this service.
Loma Linda University maintains a well-trained security staff. However, you must also assume responsibility for your own safety since the security officers cannot be everywhere at once. Use common sense and good judgment! Security officers are often stationed at Lindsay Hall at night and if a parking space is not available near by the officer would be happy to follow you to a parking space and bring you back to the front steps.
LLU does not assume responsibility for your personal belongings. If your or your parents' homeowners insurance does not cover your belongings against theft, fire, vandalism, water damage, etc., you may be interested in an affordable insurance plan. A pamphlet of such a plan is provided in your check-in packet.
The main entrance to Lindsay Hall is locked at 11:00 p.m. each night. All other entrances are locked at all times and must never be propped open. They are on 24-hour alarm.
To use the ground door entrance at any time of the day or night a key card must be used. This door is under camera surveillance for your security; however, we ask that you do not allow non-residents to enter with you. Visitors/guests must use the front entrance.
During any emergency evacuation from the building, use the nearest exit. NEVER use the elevator during an emergency.
If the smoke detector in your room is activated, the alarm will sound in your room, all RA rooms, and at the front desk. The front desk clerk will call into your room to ask you what caused the alarm to sound. You must inform her if you or your property are in danger, if flames and/or smoke are still present, if you need assistance. She will then notify the dean on duty as to the cause of the alarm. If no one is in danger and there are no flames you may be instructed to remain in your room and to open a window to help the smoke exit the building. If you open the door into the hall while there is still smoke it will escape and set off the general alarms, which alert the fire department, security, and all residents. When the general alarms sound, for any reason, everyone inside the residence hall must exit until the alarm is silenced and they are given permission to reenter the building.
Failure to immediately exit the building upon hearing the alarm will result in a monetary fine up to $500.
Earthquake tremors are felt from time to time. These are no great cause for alarm. However, in the event of a major earthquake, stay where you are until the shaking stops, then evacuate the building according to the emergency plan posted in your room.
The patio doors are on either side of the second floor lobby and are not emergency exits. They are locked except during the daylight hours and have no crash bars. If you are in that area and must evacuate, please exit through the double doors of the lounge into the blue zone patio area and then through the wrought iron gate toward the church.
