The Heritage Room collection contains over 30,000 books written by, about, and against Seventh-day Adventists. Because the Heritage Room on the Loma Linda campus is the west coast depository for the Adventist publishing houses in North America, the department receives one copy of each denominational title. The Loma Linda University owns many books on 19th century American medicine, as well as books on the health reform movement. The History of Medicine collection includes nearly 5,000 titles. In addition the Heritage Room have gathered over 3,000 Adventist tracts and pamphlets dating from the early 1850's, covering a wide variety of topics. The book collection also includes books on Bible prophecy and the Sabbath dating back to the 17th and 18th century.
Adventist periodicals are one of the richest sources for the study of denominational history. An accumulation of about 2,000 periodical titles can be found in the Heritage Room collection. One of the strengths of the collection is the wide range of union and division papers. Included are nearly complete sets of such publications as the Pacific Union Recorder, Atlantic Union Gleaner, Central Union Reaper, Lake Union Herald, and also the Southern Asia Tidings and Trans-Africa Division Outlook.
Also, the General Conference Archives has prepared a microfiche collection of early Adventist periodicals which contains such titles as the Review and Herald, Signs of the Times, and the Health Reformer, as well as many lesser known periodicals. These are available in the Heritage Room.
