Book reviews appear near the time of the book's publication. A book review may include a summary of the subject of the book, a discussion of style, or comparisons with similar books. When searching for book reviews, you will need to know:
- The full name of the author.
- The exact book title.
- The year of copyright or publication.
If you do not have these elements in hand, conduct an author or title search in the library's catalog <
http://catalog.llu.edu> or the Melvyl catalog <
http://www.melvyl.ucop.edu>. If you still cannot find this information, consult the librarian at the reference desk for assistance.

Print Indexes of book reviews: The following sources are available on the 3rd floor of the library.
- Book Review Digest. (1905-) Index to reviews from periodicals in the humanities, social sciences and general sciences. Emphasis is on works of general interest. It provides citations to as well as excerpts from reviews of current fiction and non-fiction in the English language. Look under author's name starting in the volume for the year the book was published and moving to more recent years. Available on the 3rd floor of the library.
- Book Review Index. (1965, 1969-) Indexes book reviews from over 500 publications including journals, national general interest publications, and newspapers representing popular, academic, and professional interests. It is more comprehensive than Book Review Digest but does not contain excerpts from the reviews. Available on the 3rd floor of the library.

- Social Sciences Citation Index (1984-) Search by author in the citation volume. Can also search by "author" to find reviews written by a given scholar. Look for "B" next to citation. Use the library database, Web of Science for 1999 onward.
- Social Sciences Index (1974-1995)
- Technical Book Review Index (1971-1987) Categories: pure sciences, life sciences, medicine, agriculture, and technology
Newspapers containing book reviews: The following source is available the circulation desk.
- New York Times Book Review (kept three years only) section of the Sunday edition of the New York Times. Each fall a special edition covers reviews of children's books.
