Ten Important Databases

Name

Description

A public nucleotide database, containing a collection of sequences from several sources, including GenBank, RefSeq, and PDB. It is administered by NCBI at NLM in Bethesda, MD.
Access to a genome database. It is a joint project between EMBL-EBI and Sanger Institute to develop a software system which produces and maintains automatic annotation on selected eukaryotic genomes.
A literature reference database includes over 15 million citations for biomedical articles back to the 1950’s. It includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources.
A public protein database containg collections of protein sequences from SwissProt, PIR, PRF, PDB, and translations from annotated coding regions in GenBank and RefSeq. It is administered by NCBI at NLM in Bethesda , MD.
A curated protein sequence database maintained by the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics AND EBI.
A database of protein families, domain, and functional sites in which identifiable features found in known protein can be applied to unknown protein sequence.
Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man. A database cataloging human genes and genetic disorder. It contains textual information and references and is linked to MEDLINE and sequence records.
Links to enzyme nomenclature and the pathway they participate.
Protein Data Bank. A repository for the processing and distribution of 3-D biological macromolecular structure data.
Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes. It contains current knowledge on molecular interaction networks, including metabolic pathways, regulatory pathways, and molecular complexes.
