Welcome to the Center for Health Disparities Research (CHDR). Each year medical and scientific advances offer new opportunities for the improvement of health for all Americans. Yet a disproportionate burden of diseases, such as diabetes, stroke, cancer, and HIV/AIDS, continues among minority and medically underserved populations. Innovative research is needed to identify and understand the contributors to health disparities. These contributors may include biological, environmental, socioeconomic, or cultural factors.
The Center for Health Disparities Research integrates a diverse team of research scientists, physicians, staff, students, and health-care providers working with community organizations to undertake innovative research to meet this need. We provide opportunities for education and training for high school, undergraduate, and medical students to participate in research programs. Our strength is in the multidisciplinary approach to advance the shared goal of Loma Linda University and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to eliminate health disparities.
