1994. Vaneta Condon (LLUSN) taught a CEU program on learning assistance in Costa Rica at the request of the new baccalaureate program at Central American Union Adventist University. The program was part of a national nursing organization conference. Everyone was extremely pleased with her presentation and it helped put the new Adventist university program in nursing on the map in their own country.

1998. Madame Mao Xiu Ying, vice-director for nursing at Peking Union Medical College in Beijing, spent three months at Loma Linda University, September 23 to December 23 for mentorship in nursing administration and nursing research.

1997. The International Nursing Council (INC) participated in a health education project with the School of Public Health in China in May 1997. Two faculty from the LLU School of Nursing, Patty Pothier and Marilyn Smith, and one clinical nurse specialist from LLUMC, Patty Garvin, were selected to present papers at a Patient Education Conference at Beijing Medical College and at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital. Smith and Pothier also presented seminar papers for the China Nurses Association in Beijing.
Belize
1993. Melanie Quion (LLUMC) spent two weeks as staff nurse at La Loma Luz SDA Hospital and Clinic in Belize, Central America. This clinic includes a 16 bed hospital, a pharmacy and emergency room. Qiuon used vacation time to participate in this SIMS project and raised funds to cover the costs involved.

1999. An international conference for nurses from three divisions (Southern Asia, Northern Asia Pacific, and Southern Asia Pacific) was held in Chiang Mai, Thailand, August 10 to 12. 1994. Jan Zumwalt, Linda Bell and Karen Tingwell (LLUMC) visited Suzhou Medical College in response to a request that came to the school earlier this year. Since Suzhou is not far from HangZhou it was convenient for them to make the visit at minimal expense. The college is extremely eager for academic exchange with LLUSN including sending faculty here to observe and learn about nursing education.

1994. Jan Zumwalt (LLUMC) brought back a report and informal request from Vietnamese leaders in October. An official request has come from Hanoi Medical College and one is on its way from the Ministry of Health in Vietnam. ADRA has agreed to pay the major portion of the cost of two people to go and develop a proposal onsite for a curriculum consultation project between LLUSN and Hanoi Medical College. The plan is to apply for funding through WHO to support two Vietnamese faculty to come to LLU for a short training period. If the funding comes though, and there is tuition income from their study here, the dean has agreed that that income could then be used to help LLUSN faculty continue consultation with the school in Vietnam. Helen King and Patricia Jones (LLUSN) are scheduled to go in August.
1993. In October, Jan Zumwalt (LLUMC) participated in the LUMC interdisciplinary team that surveyed the health care system in Vietnam at the request of the Vietnam government through ADRA. Jan assessed the level of nursing practice and education in hospitals and schools of nursing in the country and contributed to the report submitted by the team.

2003. Theresa Pang, Staff Nurse, Surgical & Oncology, Unit from HongKong Adventist Hospital, Hong Kong completed a clinical mentorship program on specialty training in Advanced Oncology at LLUMC, March 14 to April 14, 2004. Among other things she observed stem cell treatment.

2005. Patricia Jones (LLUSN) consulted with Scheer Memorial Hospital administrators and Nepal nursing leaders regarding development of a school of nursing at Scheer Memorial Hospital. She also interviewed applicants for the MS off-campus program, April.
1999. A staff nurse from Scheer Memorial Hospital in Nepal spends the month of June in LUMC observing obstetrical nursing.

1993. Ruby Capule, Camille Hogaboam, Eydie Pahls and Janette Whittaker-Allen were members of the Loma Linda University Overseas Heart Team that went to Nepal in spring of 1993. They provided postoperative care to the 32 heart surgery patients and trained staff nurses to assume the care after they left. All four nurses had release time from their positions at LLUMC for this project.

1999. Adelaide Caroci, a nursing graduate of Brazil College, is enrolled in the master of science program in nursing with a full tuition scholarship from the LLU School of Nursing.

1997. The executive director of nursing at LLU Children's Hospital was the featured speaker for an SDA Nursing Conference at Brazil College in May 1997.
1997. Linda Johnson Latta presented three lectures for Nurses Recognition Week at Instituto Adventista De Ensino in May 1997. She also presented a sermon on Sabbath to 3,000 people.
1994. Margaret Burns (LLUSN) did a continuing education seminar on the application of nursing theories at the Adventist University in Brazil in January for their 25th anniversary. Many national nursing leaders attended the seminar and the group expressed interest in Dr. Burns returning to do another seminar at a future time.

1993. Patti Radovich and Sally Coffen (LLUMC) presented continuing education seminars on critical care nursing to staff nurses at Youngberg Memorial Hospital in Singapore and at the Hong Kong Adventist Hospital in Hong Kong. Patti Radovich also presented a seminar on pain management to the Singapore Hospital Association. Travel expenses were covered by Youngberg Memorial Hospital. Rodovich used vacation time and Coffen had release time from her position at LLUMC for these international activities.

Elizabeth Bossert and Patricia Pothier (LLUSN) conducted continuing education conferences in five different sites in China from mid-June to mid-July: two for the Chinese Nurses Association--one in Hwang Shan and one in Kun Ming; one at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital in Hangzhou; one at Suzhou Medical College in Suzhou; and one at Peking Union Medical College Hospital.
1998. Three School of Nursing faculty and one LLUMC staff nurse conducted conferences for the Chinese Nurses Association in Beijing, Suzhou, and Wu XI in April 1998.

1993. Penny Miller (LLUSN) spent three weeks in Tanzania, Africa, assisting with an ADRA project of building and operating a community health clinic. Miller used vacation time and personal funds, with a contribution from the School of Nursing, for this project.

2004. Marge Strutt, nursing manager, and Celia Stoltzfus (LLUMC) were at Community Hospital of Seventh-day Adventists in Trinidad for three weeks in April to set up the dialysis unit.

1999. A delegation of five health professionals representing nursing education in Mongolia spent three weeks at LLUSN in February to study curriculum development and instruction in baccalaureate nursing education in the United States. They were accompanied by the Peace Corps Mongolia health programs director.
1998. LLUSN and LLUMC sent teaching supplies to Peace Corps nurses in two different parts of Mongolia. In March, three faculty from LLUSN made a consultation visit to National Medical University in Ulaanbatar.

1998. With complete tuition scholarship from LLUSN, Heather Fletcher, a nurse faculty member from West Indies College, completed the program for a Master of Science degree in June.
1997. Heather Fletcher, an international graduate student nurse faculty member from the West Indies College is completing her second year of a Master of Science degree with complete tuition scholarship form LLUSN.
