Emergency Medical Care Program - EMS Community

EMS Community

Emergency medical services and prehospital care have seen undeniable growth and development over the past 40 years. These changes require new knowledge and skills to successfully navigate the challenges of health care and our social environment. Challenges include a growing, diverse, and aging population, the persistence of chronic disease and acute injury, the continued proliferation of violence, increasing vulnerability of communities to disasters, and the present threat of terrorism and weapons of mass destruction.

Loma Linda University responds to these challenges offering comprehensive educational programs in the health sciences. The students, faculty, and staff at Loma Linda University respond to these challenges through their actions.

Bicycle Ambulance

In May 2005, the 10th graduating class of the Emergency Medical Care Program presented Loma Linda University administrators with their class gift--a bicycle ambulance to provide emergency transport of patients in the communities of Narasingha Tole Kha, Manakamana and Sisne Plate, in the municipality of Butwal (west of Nepal). Bicycle ambulances in these areas provide people in remote locations with a vital link to available health services that would be otherwise inaccessible.
