The health information management program at Loma Linda University is a two-year program that begins with the fall quarter of the junior year. LLU is the only accredited program within the five western states of California, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, and Hawaii, and has been offered since 1962.
The health information administration program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in cooperation with the American Health Information Management Association.
Clinical experience is arranged throughout the two-year program to enable the student to develop skills necessary for managing information in all aspects of the health-care environment. This includes a weekly visit to selected institutions and settings. It begins in the fall quarter of the junior year and includes a two-week practicum during the summer at the end of the junior year and a three-week affiliation during the spring quarter of the senior year.
The graduate from this accredited program is qualified to earn the professional title of Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) by sitting for a national exam offered by the American Health Information Management Association. Students from LLU consistently perform well on this exam.
Preference is given to applications received before June 1 for admission in the autumn quarter. Prerequisite college courses should be completed before autumn quarter admission.
