$189.00 per unit.
Do I have to pay for the whole program up front?
Tuition is paid quarterly.
What do coders do?
Coders code medical diagnosis and procedures using the ICD 9 or CPT coding systems for reimbursement from Medical Insurance companies.
When do you start accepting applications for the program?
In January of each year
How many coding students do you accept?
Up to 50.
Is the program full or hard to get into?
Numbers vary from year to year. Contact the Department Secretary for more up to date information
How do I know if courses I have taken count for my prerequisites?
Courses are evaluated on a course by course basis.
Do I have to take a certification exam to work in the field?
The CCS is the national licensing exam
Does your program offer clinical experience in the coding field?
Yes as part of our program curriculum
Is the profession hard to get into?
Without experience it can be challenging.
What is CPT coding?
The CPT is the system used for procedures in medical facilities.
What is ICD 9 Coding?
This system is used for in patient settings such as medical centers and codes medical diagnosis. This is the more complex system of the two. CPT and ICD 9 codes may be used conjointly as well.
Why is medical terminology needed for this profession?
Specialized Medical Coding is based on medical diagnosis and procedures.
What other skills do coders use in this profession?
Are there specialties within the coding profession?
Yes coders may code specifically to a medical specialty or disease. They may also opt to certain procedural codes.
