    Doctor of Science in Physical Therapy (DSc)


    The Doctor of Science in Physical Therapy is a research-oriented doctorate degree designed for the physical therapist who wishes to pursue advanced studies in the area of education, research, basic science, and advanced clinical practice.
     
    To be eligible for admission, the applicant must have a bachelor of science in physical therapy from an accredited program and an earned master’s degree. Upon evaluation of transcripts, additional co-requisites may be required, and sequencing of courses may be modified. There is no GRE requirement for acceptance into this program; however, successful completion of a clinical practice based entrance examination and a comprehensive written examination is required. A written dissertation and a defense of the dissertation is a requirement of the program. At the completion of the program, the diploma will be awarded in conjunction with the School of Allied Health Professions and the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

    Since some courses are web based, students admitted into the program must have access to a personal computer (minimum: 300 MHz multimedia) with Internet access (minimum: 56 kbs [v.90 standard]).

    Admission

    This doctoral degree program leading to the DSc degree is designed for the individual with a degree in physical therapy who wishes to pursue advanced studies in the profession.

    To be eligible for admission the applicant must have earned a master's degree in physical therapy from an accredited program or a bachelor's degree in physical therapy from an accredited program and a master's degree in another area with specific coursework.

    Tuition Costs

    The DSc program is 84-quarter units beyond the transitional DPT degree. The current tuition is $510 per quarter unit or a total of $42,840 (tuition only). There is also a fee of $435 per quarter (or $1740 a year) for student fees including: student health coverage, Drayson Center, library etc. The above costs do not include additional expenses such as books, food, personal transportation expenses, and lodging. These costs are the students' responsibility. International students may be subject to additional fees. Tuition rates increase slightly annually.
