Overview of Program

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists work in a highly specialized field operating sophisticated computerized equipment. They provide detailed cross-sectional images of the human body, assisting physicians with quality patient diagnosis and treatment.

This is a full-time 6-month Magnetic Resonance Imaging Certificate program. The program involves two quarters winter and spring. It starts around the first of the year and ends around the middle of June. During the program students take formal coCT/MRI students gain valuable experience during their clinical rotation.ursework along with clinical instruction. It is a full-time program with no arrangements for part-time or evening status. Clinical sites are available, but we cannot guarantee a clinical site close to where you live.

The program is full-time and involves 40 hours per week, which includes didactic and clinical experience. Clinical involves four (4), eight (8) hour days per week. Classes are scheduled for one day per week and require the student to be on campus.

We also offer a combined nine (9) month MRI/CT program. Contact the program director if you are interested in this program.

Program Outcomes

  1. Technologists completing the MRI program will be knowledgeable professionals in their field of study.
  2. Demonstrate leadership and critical thinking in all areas of MRI scanning.
  3. Maintain ethical standards as a professional MRI Technologist.
  4. Maintain a high degree of positive interaction and communication with patients, department personnel, and professional staff.
  5. Maintain skills and knowledge by interacting with fellow professionals, attending educational conferences, and staying current with changing technology.

This is full-time 6-month Computed Tomography Certificate program. The program involves two quarters, fall and winter. It starts towards the end of September and ends around the middle of March. During the program students take formal coursework along with clinical instruction. It is a full-time program with no arrangements for part-time or evening status. Program Requirements

A minimum GPA of 2.5 must be maintained in all didactic and clinical coursework. Each student must complete all clinical requirements and class work, including assignments, quizzes, and exams.

Observation Experience

A minimum of eight (8) hours of career observation in CT and MRI is required respectively. The Career Observation Form is available as a download from the forms page on the web site.

Interviews

Deadline: Applications are accepted starting in January of each year. May 1 is the application deadline.


Be sure your application is complete to include a statement of purpose, application fee, three recommendations and transcripts. Official transcripts must come directly from the school to our Admissions Office.


Interviews

Interviews are conducted towards the end of May. All applicants will be interviewed by the program director and representatives of the school of Allied Health Professions. If you reside in Southern California you should plan for a personal interview. You will be notified by phone or e-mail of your interview time and date.

The interviews are rated in the following four areas:

a. Work experience or training background

b. Recommendations

c. Academic background

d. Communication skills, knowledge, motivation, etc.


Selection

After all applicants have been interviewed, the selection committee for the CT and MRI programs meets to make the final selections. Selections are usually decided by the middle of June and confirmation of each decision is mailed to the respective applicant from the Office of Admissions for the School of Allied Health Professions.


Financial Information


The CT program is full-time for each quarter. The cost for the CT program school year of 2008 - 2009 is around $6,000 including tuition, fees, and books. Since this is a certificate program through the School of Allied Health Professions financial aid is not available. The MRI program is full-time for each quarter. The cost for the MRI program (for 2008 – 2009) is around $7,000 including tuition, fees, and books. Since this is a certificate program through the School of Allied Health Professions. Financial aid is not available. Timetable

Fall quarter starts at the end of September.

Application deadline is May 1. Interviews start the end of May with acceptance notification by the end of June.
