Department of Radiation Technology - Sonography

Sonography uses high frequency sound waves to produce dynamic images of organs, tissues, or blood flow inside the body.

The profession of diagnostic medical sonography includes general sonography, cardiac sonography, vascular technology, and various subspecialties.

Loma Linda University offers two tracks in the Sonography Program. Each of the two tracks are stand-alone programs and can be taken separately.

Track 1 is the program most people take since it prepares students to be general sonographers in a hospital or clinic. Track 2 is only taken by those who want a cardiac sonograph specialty credential (or echocardiographer).

Track 1:
Diagnostic Medical Sonography & Vascular Technology
24-month program

Program to prepare for Credential 1 as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer and Registered Vascular Sonographer.

Track 2:
Cardiac Sonography
12-month program

Program to prepare for Credential 1 as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer.
