LLU SAHP - How to Apply for the Sonography Programs
Radiation Sciences Sonography Program
Prerequisites/Requisites
Applicants must hold one of the following before entering the program:
- Any associate's degree (science area preferred)
- Any bachelor's degree
- Be a graduate of an accredited allied health program, including nursing (two-year, LVN, registered nurse)
In addition to the above, all candidates must also complete the following prerequisite courses:
- Anatomy and Physiology, two-part sequence with labs. These classes must be taken within last five years at an accredited college or university. If applicants wish to talk these classes/labs from LLU, the course title is AHCJ 250 and AHCJ 251. The classes/labs are available at LLU as evening classes. Applicants who are not yet accepted into the program can take this class at LLU as a non-degree student; however, it is not required that students take this class from LLU.
- Medical Terminology. This class can be taken from an accredited college or university, or online through an accredited college. If applicants wish to take this class from LLU, the name of the class is AHCJ 311 Medical Terminology, 2 units.
- Introduction to Physics (strongly recommended but not required)
- Intermediate Algebra (College). This requirement can be met with a higher-level mathematics class, such as Calculus. This class must be taken within last five years.
- Fundamentals of Healthcare or Patient Care Methods (Applicants can take this class before entering the program, but it is available at LLU in the summer to only the students who have been accepted into the program to start in the September of the year of acceptance.
- Complete 8 hours of observation (volunteer/employee) in an ultrasound department. Students must have their observation done by the end of April. It is preferred that some observation is done at LLUMC if distance allows.
All prerequisites must be completed by early-September of the same year that you plan to start the program. All three tracks of sonography begin in September of each year.
