
Program location
Bacolod City is located on the northwestern coast of the Province of Negros Occidental. It is bounded on the east by the City of Silay and on the west by the Guimaras Strait. The city has a population of approximately 400,000 people, and this number is growing rapidly.
Climate/weather
Bacolod City has two pronounced seasons--wet and dry. The rainy season is from May to January of the following year with heavy rains occurring during the months of August and September. Dry season starts in February and extends until April. December and January are the coolest months while April is the hottest. Bacolod' registers an average temperature high of 88.5 degrees Fahrenheit and an average low of 74.8 degrees Fahrenheit.

Languages
The national language is Filipino, with English as the most widely spoken second language. All business, governmental, and legal transactions are conducted in English. There are over 100 regional languages in the Philippines including Tagalay and Cebuan, which are widely spoken in this region. At the site, all of the staff and a majority of the patients speak English.

Eligibility
This site recruits students and professionals in the following health professions: medicine, dentistry, nursing, international public health, health promotion, nutrition/dietetics, physical therapy, and laboratory technology. Other fields are welcome but must first check with the site.
Program fee
Program fees include food, lodging, and transport from the arrival airport to the site. Program fees do not include air travel or personal travel while in the country. The following costs are based on a four-week stay and subject to change in conjunction with the site.
