Goal
The goal of the workshop is to provide you with practical skills that will enable you to be competitive in the grants acquisition arena.
Applying criteria offered during this course, you will write and critique key sections of proposals related to projects for which your agency seeks funding.
Sourcing funds from foundations and corporations plays a significant role in many non-profits? fund raising programs. This three-day course will lead participants to develop the skills required to research potential funding sources, communicate with them, and write proposals requesting grants. These skills are fundamental to any organization needing to be increasingly successful in its general operations, productivity, and fund raising program.
During this course attendees will develop skills necessary to:
Albin Grohar, PhD, holds the position of executive director for advancement at Loma Linda University. Following undergraduate and master?s level work in biology and the behavioral sciences, Dr. Grohar earned a PhD in educational administration at Andrews University. His dissertation was in the area of fund raising effectiveness.
Dr. Grohar oversees all fund raising activities for three of the University?s five schools, in addition to development services for the University. He is part of a fund raising team that generates $15-$23 million annually.
Dr. Grohar also implements and coordinates grantwriting as well as foundation and corporate relations activities for Loma Linda University and Medical Center. His work in this area has generated close to $15 million in the past five years.
Prior to his fund raising functions in higher education, Dr. Grohar was program planning and evaluation director for Michigan Economics for Human Development, a private, state-wide human service agency in Michigan. It was there that his grantwriting activities began. Dr. Grohar?s grantwriting efforts have facilitated close to $40 million in private and public grants.
Dr. Grohar is married and has two adult sons. He enjoys family life, competitive bicycling, reading in the sciences, and music. Having spent significant segments of his life in Europe and South America, Dr. Grohar is fluent in German and Spanish. His wife, Irene, is a biostatistician.

Loma Linda University, School of Public Health, is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. Loma Linda University, School of Public Health, designates this educational activity for a maximum of 15 category 1 credits toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits that he/she actually spent in the activity.
Loma Linda University, School of Public Health, is also accredited by the Board of Registered Nurses, the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, and the American Dietetic Association. Up to 15 hours of credit can be received for this workshop.
