HPRO 527 Obesity and Disordered Eating – 3 units
Exploration of causes and development of obesity, principles of weight management and relapse prevention. Includes discussion and causes of anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, the successful student will be able to:
- Discuss the implications of how lifestyle behaviors contribute to the obesity epidemic.
- Describe and demonstrate an ability to administer and interpret general obesity assessments.
- Apply principles of obesity management from a lifestyle perspective to the treatment of obesity in various populations.
- Explain how medical, behavioral and lifestyle assessments and treatments for obesity compare and contrast.
- Describe the implications of eating disorders on the mental and physical health of an individual.
- Analyze and evaluate popular literature concerning obesity in order to provide professional informed recommendations.
