HPRO 565 – Tobacco Use: Prevention and Intervention – (3 units)
This is the second course (in a three-part series) that is included in the online, module-based tobacco-control methods certificate program. This online course provides the foundation for understanding tobacco prevention and control issues and is a comprehensive overview of a study of public health issues relating to tobacco and health. It is focused on an understanding of the pathophysiology of the diseases that are tobacco caused, mechanisms of nicotine addiction, and most importantly, the clinical interventions methods (pharmacological and behavioral modification) for prevention and treatment of the addiction.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, the successful student will be able to:
- Explain the mechanisms of nicotine addiction and dependence.
- Describe physiology and pathology that is related to tobacco use.
- Design treatment interventions targeting individuals and groups (e.g. work site, populations, etc.)
