NUTR 509 Public Health Nutrition 3 units

This course is an introduction to nutrition concepts related to public health. It covers key nutrition issues for particular populations and the most important nutrition related conditions throughout the life cycle and their prevention.

Learner objectives

At the conclusion of this course, the successful student will be able to:

  • 1. Discuss and evaluate current dietary recommendations aimed at preventing nutrition-related diseases.
  • 2. Assess dietary patterns of individuals and populations to frame policies and interventions to reduce the burden of diet-related diseases in the general population.
  • 3. Describe the health impact of nutrition among infants, children, and pregnant women.
  • 4. Examine diet-related diseases that are public heath problems among adults and design micro ecological interventions to prevent them.
  • 5. Evaluate current nutrition topics from a public health perspective.
  • 6. Design a dietary intervention to reduce the burden of diet-related diseases in particular populations.
