Learning Objectives for the Doctor of Public Health Program (DrPH)

  1. Meet the learning objectives for our MPH program in epidemiology
  2. Identify and design research proposal relevant to public health practice and related health issues. This includes:
    • Critical synthesis of available data and literature
    • Design specific aims that address relevant problem
    • Evaluation of the relative importance of the identified health issues
  3. Be able to conduct epidemilogic research including:
    • Design and implement epidemiologic studies
    • Design and implement data collection methods
    • Design and implement quality control procedures
    • Design and implement data management methods
    • Insure protection of human subjects
  4. Discuss biases that may affect the validity of the study results and plans to minimize the impact of these biases.
  5. Select appropriate and valid analysis methods for evaluation of specific aims. This may include: stratified analysis and various regression methods i.e., linear, logistic and Cox regression.
  6. Evaluate, interpret, and discuss the results of analysis including potential impact of random and systematic error and effect measure modification.
  7. Communicate study results orally and in peer - reviewed journals in appropriate epidemiologic format that includes evaluation of precision and applicability to public health.
  8. Demonstrate knowledge of disease etiology, progression and prevention as relevant to public health.
