Center for Public Health Preparedness
About the Center for Public Health Preparedness
In August 2005, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) designated Loma Linda University School of Public Health as a Center for Public Health Preparedness (LLU-CPHP) in collaboration with the Association of Schools of Public Health.
LLUCPHP is one of 27 CPHPs within schools of public health who provide workforce capacity building training and education around disaster preparedness and response.
As an academic institution, the primary functions and activities of the CPHP are to provide disaster preparedness/bioterrorism planning and training to community partners; build relationships with governmental organizations, as well as faith-based organizations (FBO) and community-based organizations (CBO); and to aid in training Native American tribes and affiliates in disaster preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery. In addition to addressing all hazards, the center is involved in pandemic influenza preparedness planning and training.
The center also provides specialty training in environmental health including water resources, food safety and security, sanitation and hygiene, and toxicology as well as the application of geographical information systems (GIS) technology to disaster preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery.
