Zaida Cordero-MacIntyre, PhD, was among speakers from Latin America, North America, and Europe invited to make presentations at the IX Latin American Congress of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition that took place in Havana, Cuba, June 22 through 27. Dr. MacIntyre's topics, "Care of the Critically Ill Diabetic Patient," and "Drug and Nutrient Interactions," were attended by Society members that include physicians, dietitians, pharmacists, and nurses who work in the care of critically ill patients. George W. Johnston, PhD, MPH, was given the Distinguished Service Award at commencement ceremonies in June. Johnston joined the SPH faculty in 1978. He has served as director of the office of international health, as chair of the department of environmental health, and as assistant and associate dean for academic affairs. In 1990, Dr. Johnston was appointed executive director for administration of Loma Linda University Adventist Health Sciences Center. [Top]

Teri S. Tamayose, EdD, earned the doctor of education degree from Pepperdine University's Graduate School of Education and Psychology (CA). Dr. Tamayose is currently an assistant professor in the department of health administration, the director of the office of admissions and academic records, student association sponsor, and part-time recruiter for the School of Public Health. Juan Carlos Belliard, PhD, MPH, Assistant Professor in the Department of Global Health, received his doctoral degree from Claremont Graduate University (CA). Dr. Belliard's doctoral research centered on campus-community partnerships for health. He also serves as a University liaison with the local community for a variety of public health initiatives. His current research interests include the relationship of culture and health, border health and advocacy, and service-learning. [Top]

Larry Beeson, DrPH, is associate professor in the department of epidemiology and biostatistics. Dr. Beeson completed his doctoral work in 2002. He studied the association of long-term exposure to ambient air pollution with subsequent cancer incidence. He is currently co-investigator of the NIH-funded Adventist Health Study-2 as well as co-investigator in the EPA-funded AHSMOG study. [Top]
