Research Interest

Dr. Perry’s research interests at Loma Linda University focus on nanoparticles for therapeutic applications, and surface modification of materials to impart more desirable physical properties. The projects that Dr. Perry is involved include using polymeric/metal composite nanoparticles in gene therapy and as a form of combinational/adjuvent treatment for pancreatic cancer.  Second, in collaboration with Dr. Jamie Milligan (University of California at San Diego) he is studying the condensation and compaction of DNA in aqueous environments. The motivation behind this research is to develop non-viral genetic therapy vehicles.

The collaboration with Dr. Hansel Fletcher (microbiology, Loma Linda University) involves pursuing the use of nanomaterials as novel treatments for chronic periodontal disease and Methicillin resistant S. aureus infections. In conjunction with the School of Dentistry (Dr. Steve Kurti) Dr. Perry is trying to develop a surface medication approaches to lengthen the life of polymeric composite dental fillings.
