My project focuses on identifying stem cell secreted factors that could be involved in both normal and cancer stem cells migration. The characterization of those putative factors will be of interest for stem cell therapies and for cancer metastasis research as well.
Cell migration is an important mechanism in biological systems. For example, stem cell migration is a key process for tissue regeneration. On the other hand, in metastasis, a subpopulation of cancer cells called cancer stem cells migrate from primary tumor to remote organs. Moreover, stem cell migration can be local (inside of an organ) or remote (to other organ). The aim of my project is to identify and characterize factors that contribute to local and remote stem cell migration.
