In an effort to assure that the research programs of the basic sciences continue to be scientifically rigorous, competitive, and widely recognized, every month the basic science department encourages regular participation in seminars representing world-class scientists from other institutions. During this time, these scientists routinely present several lectures or seminars and have individual meetings with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and students to discuss current research. This program offers unprecedented opportunities for CHDMM staff and students to meet and interact with established senior scientists from around the world.
Molecular biology research discussions
To facilitate interaction and communication, the CHDMM sponsors regular opportunities at 9:00 a.m. on Mondays for the faculty, fellows, and students of the CHDMM to meet and informally discuss recent research findings. These meetings provide a chance for CHDMM staff to gather ideas for solving research problems and strengthen various experimental approaches and collaboration between laboratories. These meetings also often help CHDMM staff get feedback on presentations to be delivered at national/international meetings. At times, these discussions focus on recent developments in the relevant research literature.
Health disparities research symposiums
Once a year the Center for Health Disparities and Molecular Medicine sponsors a symposium featuring student research, lectures by top researchers in related fields, and acknowledgment of outstanding work and research. The program for last year's symposium (PDF) can be viewed online.
