Loma Linda University School of Medicine welcomes elective applications from students in good standing in their senior year of medicine at AAMC Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accredited institutions. Students in their senior year at osteopathic schools of medicine accredited by the Committee on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association are also invited to apply.
Please note that we are unable to accept applications or make elective placements for students enrolled in foreign medical schools.
All applications from students in LCME-accredited medical schools and COCA-accredited osteopathic schools of medicine must be submitted through the AAMC Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS). Paper applications and email requests will not be accepted.
Availability of rotations cannot be confirmed by telephone. Students are instructed not to call or email individual departments or faculty. ALL elective requests must be scheduled through VSAS.

Below are links to information regarding electives available at Loma Linda University and the elective schedule. LLU requires a criminal background check on all visiting students. If your application is accepted and you have not had a criminal background check completed in the past two years, we will provide you with the necessary additional information to obtain a background check specific to LLU. Students will not be allowed to begin a rotation until the criminal background check has been completed and verified. Students from COCA-accredited schools must have received a COMLEX score of 500 or greater, or a USMLE Step 1 score of 210 or greater.
All applications must be received at least 8 weeks prior to the start of the requested rotation. No application will be considered if received less than 7 days prior to the requested start date. A non-refundable $50.00 processing fee in the form of cashier’s check or money order must be received at least 7 days prior to the start of the requested rotation.
